Before you move, take the time to update your Medicare health insurance coverage. Should you change plans when you move? Maybe. Here are a few reasons why you might want to review your coverage:
- Coverage - Your current insurance company may or may not offer the same coverage in your new location.
- Choice - You may find more or different insurance companies offering plans in your new location. Not every company offers all plans in every state.
- Cost - You may find less expensive plans in your new location. Costs among insurers can vary widely, so it makes sense to compare prices.
- Convience - Changing locations may mean changing doctors. So a different type of plan, like a Medicare Advantage plan, might be more convenient in your new area.
If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, it is very important you check plans in your new location. Even moving a few blocks away may mean you have to switch plans. Or a move can change the cost of the plan enough that it makes sense to look at other options.
LAI Tip: When you speak with a Longevity Alliance Personal Health Insurance Advisor, have your current plan information available and the address and zip code of your new location.
